Your First Rule

Let’s create a common shipping rule: free shipping on orders over $100 in the United States.

You can do this two ways: type it in plain English using the AI prompt box, or fill out the form manually. Both produce the same result.

  1. Open the prompt box

At the top of the ShipRules AI dashboard, you’ll see the AI prompt box. Click into it.

  2. Type your request

Type: Free shipping on orders over $100 for the US

  3. Review the confirmation card

ShipRules AI shows you exactly what it’s about to do:

    • Create a rule on your US shipping method
    • Action: Make shipping free
    • Condition: Cart total is greater than $100

The card also shows a confidence score. For straightforward requests like this, it’s usually above 90%.

  4. Click “Apply”

The rule is created and a new version is saved automatically. You can undo this at any time from the Version History panel.

  1. Go to the shipping method

In the sidebar, find your US zone and click on the shipping method you want to add the rule to (e.g., “Standard Shipping”).

  2. Click “Add Rule”

Below the method’s rate configuration, click the “Add Rule” button.

  3. Set the action

Choose Free from the action dropdown. This makes the method free when the conditions match.

  4. Add a condition

Click “Add Condition” and fill in:

    • Type: Cart Total
    • Operator: Greater than
    • Value: 10000 (prices are in cents — $100.00 = 10000)
    • Scope: Any product in order
  5. Save the rule

Click “Save”. The rule is now active and a version snapshot is created automatically.

Don’t wait for a real customer to test. Use the Test Rates panel:

  1. Open the Test Rates panel from the toolbar.
  2. Set the destination to a US address.
  3. Add an item with a price above $100.
  4. Click “Simulate”.

You’ll see the shipping rate come back as $0.00 (free), along with a trace showing which rule fired and why.

Try changing the cart total to below $100 — the rate should revert to the method’s base price.
